Only one factor present 100% of the time in fatal dog attacks by Nicole Sica

In an earlier story we told you about Adopt-A-Cat’s efforts to open a low cost spay/neuter clinic in the Greenspoint area. According to the National Canine Research Council’s (NCRC) investigation on dog bite statistics, the need for these clinics is not just an issue of controlling the stray pet population—it is a matter of public safety.

We’ve all seen the sensationalistic headlines, each one more gruesome than the last, and all invariably bearing the image of a dog in a Cujo-pose. But the mos… Continue

Moses Lake leaves hazardous dog ordinance as is

Herald staff writer

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake City Council took no action when asked to reconsider the hazardous dog ordinance. The city council recently adopted an ordinance declaring pit bulls, rottweilers and presa canarios as hazardous dogs. To own a hazardous dog, pet owners must obtain a $250,000 insurance policy for the animal in case it harms someone, it must be spayed… Continue

Pocatello mayor pushing for vicious dog registry

Associated Press - December 24, 2008 11:14 AM ET

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) - Pocatello Mayor Roger Chase wants the state to create a vicious dog registry that tracks animals when their owners move from one jurisdiction to another after a southeastern Idaho animal control officer was attacked and injured by a pitbull with a long history of problems this month.

Chase has asked lawmakers to consider the registry during the 2009 Legislature, which begi… Continue

ALLEN PARK: City tightens pit bull laws

Wednesday, December 24, 2008 10:57 AM EST
By Rene Cizio

ALLEN PARK — Pit bulls have been banned from the city for now — at least the bad ones.

After months of heated debate City Council members and pit bull advocates have worked out a compromise.

“It’s still a ban, but it’s better then it was,” said Bob Darden, a member of the Michigan Association for Pure Bred Dogs.

Darden has been a fixture at City Hall since July, when word of the ban first started… Continue

**ALERT** New Berlin, Wisconsin BSL letter writing needed!

Sat Dec 20, 2008 7:21 pm (PST)

It is my understanding from a concerned dog owner who attended the meeting on December 17, 2008 that New Berlin is "probably" going to follow the lead of West Allis. If you recall, West Allis passed a pit bull ban which was immediately vetoed by the mayor. West Allis is now in the process of working on a generic dangerous dog ordinance.

Nevertheless, until we hear otherwise, BSL is still on the table in New Berlin, so please send your polite and respectful opposi… Continue

A little surprised on the lack of responses

I know the site is still getting up and running but I am a bit curious to why there is such a lack of response on the posts for people that are looking to adopt...it seems we run around with our heads cut off all day trying to find homes for dogs, but I have 2-3 people searching for particular dogs and noone has one to re-home?
I realize that some people are just picky...the 2 people I know personally have converted to think about rescuing verses buying from a breeder or pet store and allow me t… Continue

I CAN SAVE YOU MONEY ON YOUR LAUNDRY SOAP/DETERGENT 4 RESCUES/SHELTERS

This is something I do myself with my own laundry and it came when I was DESPERATE for money saving ideas because I was laid off, and unemployment was not coming in yet...
I started making my own laundry soap...it takes only 3 ingredients, 2 of them when you buy them they last for over 15 gallons of soap, the 3rd ingredient costs $1 and makes 3 batches (7.5gallons). So if you are a shelter, or donate to a shelter or rescue, THIS IS THE BEST CONTRIBUTION without breaking the bank!
I just recently… Continue

I am collecting Purina Weight Circles from food bags to raise money

My local animal shelter here in upstate NY called Stephanies Animal Rescue is in need of donations, but so is every shelter...so to make things easier, for those of you that feed your animals Purina, can you save your weight circles (stamp on the side of the bag just like a proof of purchase) and send them to me or to Stephanies directly...
This is a program to help discount costs of food.
Thank You!!!!

Hi Melissa!
I am so sorry I can't help on the 29th. I will be out of the area celebrating our Family Thanksgiving. I hope all works out for you. If it were a different day, I would love to take the pics (although I don't have a suit). I'm not a pro, but I love taking pictures!

Sounds good Melissa. I'm happy for Dolly - She deserves a family who will love and take care of her.. Please keep me in mind if you should hear of any small dogs that are in need of fostering. Maureen

Hi Melissa, How's Dolly doing now that she's on an antibiotic and a neb tx.? Did she end up having a skin problem or not? I think there's a very good chance that I can foster her. Just want to make sure she's stable and what the routine is with her. Please give me any updates you have. I think she'd be a good fit at my house - my pit has a great maternal instinct. She's been "mom" to my chihauhau's since they were 6 wks old. They're all pretty quiet now and spend most of their time on the couch sleeping together under a blanket. Although they do have toys they play with on occasion, sometimes they even play outside and chase each other around the yard. Maureen
