Where have I been?

As some of you may or may not know, I have been heavily involved in this site since I joined and am working on the board gathering info, but that means I am not as active on the site, but I want to let everyone know how much I appreciate the activity on here, and that it is still moving forward with more and more members every day!
I also have been doing some work for a local farm that has aspirations of being a therapeutic riding NFP so I have been doing lots of paperwork for BOTH organizations… Continue

Only one factor present 100% of the time in fatal dog attacks by Nicole Sica

In an earlier story we told you about Adopt-A-Cat’s efforts to open a low cost spay/neuter clinic in the Greenspoint area. According to the National Canine Research Council’s (NCRC) investigation on dog bite statistics, the need for these clinics is not just an issue of controlling the stray pet population—it is a matter of public safety.

We’ve all seen the sensationalistic headlines, each one more gruesome than the last, and all invariably bearing the image of a dog in a Cujo-pose. But the mos… Continue

Changes to dangerous dog ordinance delayed

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Changes to Sioux City's pit bull ban will have to wait another week.

The city council was set to discuss amending that ordinance at tomorrow's council meeting, but councilman, Aaron Rochester asked for a delay.

In September, city leaders approved an ordinance to ban new pit bulls from the city and put additional requirements on current pit bull owners.

A week lat… Continue

Moses Lake leaves hazardous dog ordinance as is
Posted: Friday, Dec 26, 2008 - 04:05:38 pm PST By Candice Boutilier
Herald staff writer

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake City Council took no action when asked to reconsider the hazardous dog ordinance. The city council recently adopted an ordinance declaring pit bulls, rottweilers and presa canarios as hazardous dogs. To own a hazardous dog, pet owners must obtain a $250,000 insurance policy for the animal in case it harms someone, it must be spayed… Continue

**BSL ALERT** Molalla, Oregon

In response to a Christmas day "pit bull" attack, Molalla Mayor John Atkins is considering whether the city should adopt a pit bull ordinance or, in the alternative, adopt a generic ordinance related to dangerous animals. Please encourage the city officials to pursue an ordinance that holds irresponsible owners accountable for the actions of their dogs and does not single out specific breeds. Please send your POLITE AND RESPECTFUL opposition, as well as educational materials, to the Molalla city… Continue

Pocatello mayor pushing for vicious dog registry

Associated Press - December 24, 2008 11:14 AM ET

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) - Pocatello Mayor Roger Chase wants the state to create a vicious dog registry that tracks animals when their owners move from one jurisdiction to another after a southeastern Idaho animal control officer was attacked and injured by a pitbull with a long history of problems this month.

Chase has asked lawmakers to consider the registry during the 2009 Legislature, which begi… Continue

ALLEN PARK: City tightens pit bull laws

Wednesday, December 24, 2008 10:57 AM EST
By Rene Cizio

ALLEN PARK — Pit bulls have been banned from the city for now — at least the bad ones.

After months of heated debate City Council members and pit bull advocates have worked out a compromise.

“It’s still a ban, but it’s better then it was,” said Bob Darden, a member of the Michigan Association for Pure Bred Dogs.

Darden has been a fixture at City Hall since July, when word of the ban first started… Continue

**ALERT** New Berlin, Wisconsin BSL letter writing needed!

Sat Dec 20, 2008 7:21 pm (PST)

It is my understanding from a concerned dog owner who attended the meeting on December 17, 2008 that New Berlin is "probably" going to follow the lead of West Allis. If you recall, West Allis passed a pit bull ban which was immediately vetoed by the mayor. West Allis is now in the process of working on a generic dangerous dog ordinance.

Nevertheless, until we hear otherwise, BSL is still on the table in New Berlin, so please send your polite and respectful opposi… Continue

Sounds good Melissa. I'm happy for Dolly - She deserves a family who will love and take care of her.. Please keep me in mind if you should hear of any small dogs that are in need of fostering. Maureen

Hi Melissa, How's Dolly doing now that she's on an antibiotic and a neb tx.? Did she end up having a skin problem or not? I think there's a very good chance that I can foster her. Just want to make sure she's stable and what the routine is with her. Please give me any updates you have. I think she'd be a good fit at my house - my pit has a great maternal instinct. She's been "mom" to my chihauhau's since they were 6 wks old. They're all pretty quiet now and spend most of their time on the couch sleeping together under a blanket. Although they do have toys they play with on occasion, sometimes they even play outside and chase each other around the yard. Maureen

Melissa, I'm off-line until Monday morning when I return to work. Hopefully you will have good news about Cezar. Thanks again. Maureen

Melissa, I've been anxiously following Cezar's story and his progress. It's a miracle that he was rescued that can be attributed to his rescuer's persistance. He is a very fortunate dog. He deserves much better in life than what was given to him at first. I would like to be able to adopt him. I have room in my life, my home and my heart for him. I know that it was mentioned that there was a possibility of him going to a rescue in Va., but if he could be adopted from where he is now it would alleviate another move/stressor in his life. Please let me know your thoughts and how I should proceed. Thank you. Maureen Cavanaugh
