I have been involved in rescue for 14 years. I started out with an all breed group and now I also work with English Springer Rescue America and National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network. I am owned by 7 dogs.
In my "spare" time, I am a legal secretary. I have worked in this field for almost 30 years and quite frankly, I am SICK of it, lol! I would LOVE to work with animals. My dream of winning the lottery would be to open a doggy daycare - No, I could NEVER work in the veterinary field! They would have to work on ME when a sick or injured pet came in!!!!!
Brag about your dog (s)
2 jack russells, 2 springer spaniels, beagle/bassett, rat terrier and a terrier mixes!
Please list the type (BREED) of dog you want to rescue or foster.
YES!!! Both actually.
Would you be interested in volunteering for fundraisers and events in your area?
Can try!

If you are an owner of a dog that belongs to a 'dangerous breed' category and you also have a small child please take this as a warning. Don't leave your dog with the child unattended under any circumstances. Only a little moment was enough for the following to happen.
See the photo attached ....
I recognized something deep in his eyes…
It was still there, but hard to recognize.
His plea for help, though it was growing dim -
Searching to find himself, to know where he fit in.
Uncertainly he hid his face, why had he come to
This new place?
I noticed the fear, I noticed the pain
The defeat that he showed - he had lived in vain
Through it all I saw what could be…
I vowed at that moment he would come live with me.
I hoped I could help him, that it wasn’t too late.
For it had been a long time since he had so much on his plate.
Would he ever remember a happier time?
Would the shine ever cement itself back in his eyes?
Today he stands tall, his head up high
His tail…It wags and I let out a sigh.
No one would notice his past and his pain.
No one would know how long it took to regain.
Today he runs and he plays with such joy,
His coat has grown out, he’s such a handsome boy!
There is still much to learn, and much to explore -
Everything is so new to him and he’s such a good boy!
Such a joy to share with him each and every day,
To help him remember those happier days.
Days before pain when somebody cared,
Long before he had been so scared.
Yet through this journey I have found a new friend -
One who will teach me, who will love me to the end.
Together we have found someone on whom we can depend
Let's ring in the New Year with some good news! With your tremendous support, we were able to provide more funding to our charitable partners in 2008 than any previous year. That means more rescued animals received the food and care they needed. Thank you for helping make 2008 a truly remarkable year. So many caring people, just like you, shopped in The Animal Rescue Site store and clicked on the purple button to generate funding to help feed animals in need. In total, over 77.8 million bowls of food were funded for animals living in shelters or sanctuaries. You have the power to increase these efforts in 2009! Please keep shopping with us and contributing to the cause you care about with every item you buy. Forward this newsletter to your friends, family and colleagues, so they know about the power of The Animal Rescue Site. Encourage them to participate in the daily click too--and make it one of your resolutions to remember to click every day! It's an easy-to-stick-with resolution with great rewards.
Free Comments @ CommentHaven.comUpload PhotosKansas Over Ninety Springer Spaniels Relinquished by Breeder December 2, 2008 : 6:15 PM English Springer Rescue steps up to help dogs in need Press release from ESRA During the week commencing November 24, 2008, English Springer Rescue America Inc. (ESRA) was called into action by the State of Kansas Department of Animal Health. A commercial breeder was unable to continue to care for the animals at their facility due to the downturn in the economy, illness, and fewer puppy purchases than expected. The Department of Animal Health accepted 98 dogs relinquished by this breeder. Our member Mark Samuel (Kansas Coordinator) was contacted and, along with Judy Manley (English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association (ESSFTA) National Rescue Representative), sprang into action to move 66 Springer Spaniels into the care of ESRA. Mark and many volunteers from several states rallied to the challenge. ESRA is now busy caring for the health of these dogs and moving them into foster care homes all around the country. We are most grateful to our volunteers who have come forward to help these dogs. We celebrate their contributions as they are our heroes on the ground. The consequences of this organization receiving so many dogs at one time are that we need to raise a lot of funds, as each dog in ESRA's care receives vaccinations, worming, a heartworm test, a microchip implanted, grooming, and spay or neuter. The cost of care is in excess of $300 per dog. ESRA is accepting donations at the website, click here to access it. As more information about these dogs becomes available, it will be made accessible through ESRA and the website www.SpringerRescue.org – the ONLY official source of information about this remarkable rescue effort. To see if an English Springer Spaniel is right for your home, click here. How You Can Help ESRA needs the following: 1. Foster homes 2. Volunteers 3. Crates 4. Phone cards 5. Gas cards 6. Petco and Petsmart Cards 7. Dog food 7. Heartworm and flea preventatives 8. Toys 9. Collars 10. Leashes
All donations may be sent to: English Springer Rescue America, Inc. c/o Caryn Pola -- ESRA President 19518 Nashville Street Northridge, CA 91326

Myspace Graphics, Dogs Graphics at WishAFriend.com A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE: EDUCATION - Letter from a Shelter Manager . . . EDUCATION!! Let's pray that 2009 spares more lives, than the 11 million killed this year.
A Letter from a Shelter Manager:
I think our society needs a huge " Wake-up" call. As a shelter manager, I am going to share a little insight with you all. A view from the inside if you will.
First off, all of you breeders/sellers should be made to work in the "back" of an animal shelter for just one day.
Maybe if you saw the life drain from a few sad, lost, confused eyes, you would change your mind about breeding and selling to people you don't even know. That puppy you just sold, will most likely end up in my shelter when it's not a cute little puppy anymore.
So how would you feel if you knew that there's about a 90% chance that dog will never walk out of the shelter it is going to be dumped at? Purebred or not! About 50% of all of the dogs that are "owner surrenders" or "strays" that come into my shelter are purebred dogs.
The most common excuses I hear are:
"We are moving and we can't take our dog (or cat)." Really? Where are you moving to that doesn't allow pets and why did you choose that place instead of a pet friendly home?
Or they say "The dog got bigger than we thought it would." How big did you think a German Shepherd would get?
"We don't have time for her." Really? I work a 10- 12 hour day and still have time for my 6 dogs!
"She' s tearing up our yard.” How about making her a p art of your family?
They always tell me: "We just don't want to have to stress about finding a place for her we know he'll get adopted, she's a good dog."
Odds are your pet won't get adopted & how stressful do you think being in a shelter is? Well, let me tell you, your pet has 72 hours to find a new family from the moment you drop it off... Sometimes a little longer if the shelter isn't full and your dog manages to stay completely healthy. If it sniffles, it dies.
Your pet will be confined to a small run/kennel in a room with about 25 other barking or crying animals. It will have to relieve itself where it eats and sleeps.
It will be depressed and it will cry constantly for the family that abandoned it.
If your pet is lucky, I will have enough volunteers in that day to take him/her for a walk. If I don't, your pet won't get any attention besides having a bowl of food slid under the kennel door and the waste sprayed out of its pen with a high-powered hose.
If your dog is big, black or any of the "Bully" breeds (pit bull, rottie, mastiff, etc) it was pretty much dead when you walked it through the front door. Those dogs just don't get adopted.
It doesn't matter how 'sweet' or 'well behaved' they are. If your dog doesn't get adopted within its 72 hours and the shelter is full, it will be destroyed.
If the shelter isn't full and your dog is good enough, and of a desirable enough breed it may get a stay of execution, but not for long.
Most dogs get very kennel protective after about a week and are destroyed for showing aggression. Even the sweetest dogs will turn in this environment.
If your pet makes it over all of those hurdles chances are it will get kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection and will be destroyed because shelters just don't have the funds to pay for even a $100 treatment.
Here's a little euthanasia 101 for those of you that have never witnessed a perfectly healthy, scared animal being "put-down".. ..
First, your pet will be taken from its kennel on a leash. They always look like they think they are going for a walk - happy, wagging their tails.
Until, they get to "The Room", every one of them freak out and put the brakes on when we get to the door. It must smell like death or they can feel the sad souls that are left in there, it's strange, but it happens with every one of them.
Your dog or cat will be restrained, held down by 1 or 2 vet techs depending on the size and how freaked out they are.
Then a euthanasia tech or a vet will start the process. They will find a vein in the front leg and inject a lethal dose of the "pink stuff".
Hopefully your pet doesn't panic from being restrained and jerk. I've seen the needles tear out of a leg and been covered with the resulting blood and been deafened by the yelps and screams.
They all don't just "go to sleep", sometimes they spasm for a while, gasp for air and defecate on themselves.
When it all ends, your pet's corpse will be stacked like firewood in a large freezer in the back with all of the other animals that were killed waiting to be picked up like garbage.
What happens next? Cremated? Taken to the dump? Rendered into pet food? You'll never know and it probably won't even cross your mind. It was just an animal and you can always buy another one, right?
I hope that those of you that have read this are bawling your eyes out and can't get the pictures out of your head I deal with everyday on the way home from work.
I hate my job, I hate that it exists & I hate that it will always be there unless you people make some changes and realize that the lives you are affecting go much further than the pets you dump at a shelter.
Between 9 and 11 MILLION animals die every year in shelters and only you can stop it. I do my best to save every life I can, but rescues are always full, and there are more animals coming in everyday than there are homes.
My point to all of this: DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER PETS DIE!
Hate me if you want to. The truth hurts and reality is what it is.
I just hope I maybe changed one person's mind about breeding their dog, taking their loving pet to a shelter, or buying a dog.
I hope that someone will walk into my shelter and say "I saw this and it made me want to adopt." THAT WOULD MAKE IT WORTH IT!
Please don't breed or buy while shelter animals DIE. Please spay/neuter to SAVE LIVES and ADOPT from a Rescue or Animal Shelter - THANK YOU! :0)

Hi all, I would like to take just a moment of your time to encourage you to join some of our groups. If you are new or relatively new to this site, take some time to browse the many groups available. My biggest hope is that you will all join the fundraising group since it is our "mission" here to raise funds to help rescue dogs and cats. And since we would ask anyone who is interested to "participate" in our fundraisers, we are asking anyone who is interested in tossing out ideas - whether you h… Continue

Hi Linda,
What happened was that Bentley fell off the bed and broke a leg. I have spoken with the vet on the phone and he said he is recovering well, though in pain. I haven't been there yet in order not to distress him and i'm not sure if he'll come home for the weekend. He'll stay at the animal hospital if that's the best choice, no matter how much we miss him. Pierrot may hurt him, not on purpose of course, but to play. I don't know, I'll let you know later. Thank you for your concern and friendship. Have a great weekend.
Hi Linda,
Thanks for your messages. I haven't been able to drop by earlier because, once again, we had problems with the net!!! Today little bentley broke a leg and had to be operated on. He is at the vet's but the vet called me a while ago and said he was fine, still asleep but fine and that he would call again later on. The poor thing will have to stay ther at least for the night and I'm so sorry and worried, because he's so tiny! Pierrot is too quiet and puzzled, he doesn't understand what happened, poor thing. I wish your Thursday is better than mine. Love, Paula.
