I work with the Mississippi Valley German Shepherd dog Rescue, this rescue covers a great deal of IL. And IA.. With their help, on Tuesday I placed a real nice 9 month old GSD in a wonderful forever home.
That same afternoon I got a disparate call to take a 5-6 month old GSD from another foster home. This boy has fear of people, and the home he was in had grandkids in and out all the time. It would not be so hard if I didn't have a submissive, fearful dog myself. So we do a lot of gate moving. I am trying to get 'Balu' socialized, but taking it very slow.
I also spend every Thursday assisting a county shelter with low cost spay/neuter.
I volunteer there a lot. I do transport when I can. I do believe my life has gone to the dogs.: )
I must say I surprised, but glad, to see a lab foster. Are you part of a rescue? It is so sad that the shelter has several black labs that just aren't getting adopted. They are going nuts living in the shelter, and only a few volunteers are strong enough to walk them. People just don't realize that the cute little lab puppy is going to get big and ornery if not given some rules and a job to do. Then they end up in the shelter, and they don't know what they did wrong. It is just so sad.
Here is a pic of Balu. He is so darn cute, but he needs some training. He was found running in Mason City, IA., we don't know how long he was on his own.
