I have not been keeping up with GTTDs or MySpace much lately. I really need to check in once in a while to see what's going on.

I work with the Mississippi Valley German Shepherd dog Rescue, this rescue covers a great deal of IL. And IA.. With their help, on Tuesday I placed a real nice 9 month old GSD in a wonderful forever home.

That same afternoon I got a disparate call to take a 5-6 month old GSD from another foster home. This boy has fear of people, and the home he was in had grandkids in and out all the time. It would not be so hard if I didn't have a submissive, fearful dog myself. So we do a lot of gate moving. I am trying to get 'Balu' socialized, but taking it very slow.

I also spend every Thursday assisting a county shelter with low cost spay/neuter.
I volunteer there a lot. I do transport when I can. I do believe my life has gone to the dogs.: )

I must say I surprised, but glad, to see a lab foster. Are you part of a rescue? It is so sad that the shelter has several black labs that just aren't getting adopted. They are going nuts living in the shelter, and only a few volunteers are strong enough to walk them. People just don't realize that the cute little lab puppy is going to get big and ornery if not given some rules and a job to do. Then they end up in the shelter, and they don't know what they did wrong. It is just so sad.

Here is a pic of Balu. He is so darn cute, but he needs some training. He was found running in Mason City, IA., we don't know how long he was on his own.

Welcome to GTTD, Jaden. This is a wonderful group of people who are very serious about helping dogs in need. I just fostered a schnauzer for a week. A true learning experience because we did not have very much background info on him. What a sweetheart he turned out to be. He was with me 24/7 because I was able to take him to work with me. He got the socialization and attention he desperately needed. Although I was sad when he was adopted I was happy for him. And then I realized I should be happy for me too because now I could help another dog by having room in my home to foster again. I can't wait! Maureen
