- Both of our beagles are rescues and are special needs.
Mia was found starving, unhealthy, and injured in a hoarder's house with 18 other beagles in Maine 2 years ago. She is very needy but she has become very confident in the last year. We found out that she is blind in one eye and that she had heartworm, which we had to put her through treatments for. She has missing teeth and one tooth going in the wrong direction. She is a lap dog and she sleeps under the covers in our bed with us at night. She is between 5 and 7 years and is a very spunky girl. She doesn't play with toys but she loves running around, playing hide and go seek, and playing with her 7 beagle buddies at my friend's house. Mia blossomed from being scared of people and of her own shadow to a very happy and confident girl!
Chloe is around 12 years old and she was picked up as a stray last summer. She laid petrified in the town pound in CT for 2 months until a small rescue pulled her out. They were looking for someone to foster her so that the "terrified senior beagle" wouldn't have to go into a kennel. We heard about her and decided to adopt her because of her age. She has cataracts and is deaf, she was not used to living inside a house and not used to being treated with love. She was agressive with our 3 cats but things worked out. She needed a mammary tumor and a baseball size hernia removed but she is basically healthy excepr for a heart murmur. She is housebroken now but she is incontinent during the evening and night so we use pee pads,which work out most of the time. Chloe is such a happy girl in our home but she doesn't like going in the car and going somewhere else. She is quite the homebody. She thumps her tail all the time and loves to be pet now. It has been amazing watching her go from petrified to comfortable and happy.
